Abstract

In India, only 40% of population have active bank accounts and around 90% of population have access to mobile phones. To promote digitalization of payments in India, UPI (Unified Payment Interface) commenced in April 2016. UPI is a huge success in India which can be further explored to achieve Financial Inclusion in India. The main objective of this research paper is to explore how open banking facilitates financial inclusion and subsequently, lead to economic development of a nation. Data collected from respondents by using a structured questionnaire who have used mobile banking application, partial least square (PLS) method of structured equation modelling (SEM) is used to analysed the data. The result suggests that financial inclusion mediates the relationship between Open banking and economic development and further financial literacy mediates the relationship between open banking and financial inclusion. This study provides idea about the relevant factors which may affect the open banking. This study gives idea about the focus areas to be followed by policy makers to strengthen financial inclusion initiatives and consequently impact the economic development. The significance of the study lies in eliciting linkage between open banking with financial inclusion which leads to economic development.
